The Commons Residence Hall at NSU

Providing design/build services and working closely with the owner and designers, the project team constructed the four-and five-story structure while keeping the campus in full operation. Constructed under green building standards, the Residence Hall provides living quarters for 528 students. Its unique concept consists of independently accessible groups of rooms called communities that house students sharing similar academic fields and/or social interests. Each community features 20 to 30 rooms with one-and two-bedroom units, bathrooms, and common areas including a lounge, study area, storage and trash rooms. Two northern modules provide guest suites and area director apartments as well as additional lounge areas, kitchens, laundry rooms, mail and meeting rooms. The southern module houses building-wide support spaces including computer labs and dividable multi-purpose rooms.
